ITS UK salutes the ITS professionals involved in the 2012 Olympic Games

ITS United Kingdom, the Intelligent Transport Systems association for the UK, congratulates all the ITS professionals who contributed to Olympic-related travel being so relatively trouble free during the fortnight of the Games.

ITS UK particularly recognise the very effective work done by Foundation Members Transport for London and Corporate Members Dorset County Council, which ensured that travelling around London and Weymouth and Portland during the sporting events was, in the end, much easier than many had anticipated.

Transport Direct, part of Foundation Members Department for Transport, also deserves recognition for the special Olympic travel planning portal which they created with particular regard to the specific needs of the many one-off visitors to the Games destinations. The portal helped to guide travellers to the most sustainable and least crowded routes.

Many ITS (UK) Members, large and small, worked as suppliers or consultants to many parts of the Olympic travel network. There are no medals for Olympic transport delivery but if there were, surely the UK’s ITS sector would be on the podium.
