The RCI project and the CESARE III project from ASECAP are to begin working more closely together towards the common goal of Road Charging Interoperability.
CESARE III is a project aiming to specify, design, develop, promote and implement a common interoperable Electronic Fee Collection system (EFC) for European toll roads, and looking into the business-related aspects. Both projects share the goal of achieving European interoperability of different road charging systems.
The CESARE III framework expected to be finalised in 2006 provides an important context for the technical developments in RCI. The liaison between RCI and CESARE could provide a basis for work on the consistency between the technical (RCI) and non-technical (CESARE) frameworks for interoperable tolling throughout Europe.
RCI and CESARE III have their first joint meeting on 22 September, where the two teams will decide how the cooperative work will progress.
